Countless times since I’ve entered the professional world have i seen bosses bend over backwards to appease flighty employees, and screw over good employees in the process. Why do they do it? What the fuck is wrong with the bosses of this world?

Those who get A’s teach, those who get B’s work for those who get C’s.

I’ve noticed this too and it baffles me. It’s really bad in the trades. The bitchiest guy gets all the perks while guys like me with good CSR scores and consistent repeat customers get laid off and sit for 3-5 months.

I’ll never get it.

Because it’s easier.

They know that actually trying to manage these people would be hard work, and it’s easier for them to dump their work on the harder working employees.

Because those are the people who will bring up a frivolous lawsuit.

Because firing someone and finding a replacement is difficult in a logistical level. So if you call sick 11 times a month but get your work done, people will have to make due. If you work even on weekends and get your work done, even better for your boss.

Because bosses are not mind readers. Have you talked to your boss about what you see is happening or are you hesitant?

Bosses also have a duty to try and get everyone up to speed.

HR processes for getting rid of people SUCK. Like, if you work for a company with more than 10 people, and you have never had to get rid of someone, you have no idea what it takes to get rid of someone. If where you work has an HR rep, go ask them to tell you all the steps it takes to fire someone who didn’t take a swing at someone, grab a boob or show up shit faced drunk or high. Ask them what it takes to get rid of someone who is a less than stellar performer or just has an attitude.

Managers make a ton of money without much effort. Not to say that you can afford to be dumb (i.e bad managers) but just like any job that has power, it naturally attracts the best and worst kind of people. Flighty employees make power hungry people feel insignificant, so they attempt to win these people over. People who are subservient get no respect. That is more of a psychology thing than a management thing.

I’m a business management major btw. They will all bow before me.

Wait, what? Education majors are known for having pretty bad grades, though not as much as journalism majors.

Not education majors, people who get degrees. In my field (Architecture) highly theoretical work gets A’s however very few of those people practice for very long. They end up as tenured faculty.
